Casa Classroom Assistant (Late August 2023- End of June 2024)

Parkdale Montessori School is seeking a Casa Classroom Assistant for the 2023-2024 academic school year.

The Casa Classroom Assistant will work in the Casa Community with up to 22 children aged 3 to 6 years-old.

Hours/Salary/Time Off:

Hours of work: 9:15 am to 5:15 pm. Paid break time.

Note: On days where a special school event is held (e.g. parent/teacher conferences, open house, orientation event, etc.), the individual’s shift will be extended.

Benefits available after a 3-month probation period. Benefits include LTD/health but does not include dental.

Salary paid over 12-months + Ministry Wage Enhancement (WEG).

Time off that is paid:

  • 10 working days during the winter break
  • 5 working days at March break
  • Between 7 and 8 weeks during the summer months (July/August)
  • 5 personal days

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Modeling grace and courtesy for the children.
  • Ensuring children behave appropriately and redirecting them as needed.
  • Monitoring children to avoid potential health risks, allergic reactions, choking and food spills, etc.
  • Helping children in various tasks such as: tidying up, getting undressed/dressed, toileting, settling onto their cots, eating snacks and lunch.
  • Acting as support in the classroom, during recess (either outside or inside), during lunch, at nap time, and in the extended care program.
  • Ensuring that the School environments (outdoor and indoor) are tidy.
  • Helping with daily tasks (including but not limited to: washing and disinfecting material and environment, doing the laundry, preparing snacks, preparing and delivering lunch, washing and sanitizing the dishes).
  • Reporting incidents, concerns, illness or injury to Head Teachers or School Supervisor.
  • Preparing and attending School events
  • Acting as a supply in other classrooms/guiding a supply if deemed necessary by the Company.

Working Conditions:

In the classrooms, multipurpose rooms, nap room, play yards and sometimes on outings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Motion Parameters

Able to climb stairs, walk, squat, kneel, and lift children if needed.

  • Psychological Demands

Able to address clients professionally, guide supply staff (at times), provide educational guidance to children appropriately and respectfully.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in Montessori/childcare (preferred but not required)
  • Hold a RECE diploma and/or equivalent (preferred)
  • Is fluent in English (oral)
  • Has good verbal skills in French (preferably)
  • Current criminal reference check with vulnerable sector
  • Updated Immunization records and/or exemptions letter
  • Must have a reliable attendance
  • Must be flexible, capable to work in a fast-paced environment and to multi-task
  • Capable of working as a team and individually
  • Must have a passion for working with young children
  • Must show respect, patience, and kindness for children
  • Able to work in team environment and also take direction
  • Able to act professionally with clients
